Ocean Series
The ocean is a fascinating environment brimming with obscure and often ‘alien’ looking life forms, crucial to our global ecosystem. It’s a world that I respect, admire and appreciate.
This collection of pipi’s (a local clam-like shellfish) design is meticulously etched into a hand-crafted platter. The etching is created using a needle tool and tiny shaping implements to create a negative image. An ‘ink’ is then mixed using various stains and leaked into the etching, before being carefully sponged and scraped off to reveal the design.
Each platter is created individually and the design selected for its unique shape. The platter is based with a double foot, the outer foot containing 2 small holes so the platter can be wired to hang on a wall as an artwork, or in between uses.
